Hospital Hustle 5k Race Registration Available

For those who have been motivated by “The Biggest Loser” television episodes, registration is now open for runners and walkers of all ages to compete in a local fitness challenge.  The inaugural “Hospital Hustle” makes it debut on Saturday, May 7, at Riverside Park in Fort Morgan.  Race day registration will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with the 5K race starting at 9:00 a.m.
A one mile Fun Run/Walk is also available for those who prefer a shorter distance than the three mile foot race.  Dogs on leashes and strollers are welcome to participate in this shorter route.
T-shirts and participant ribbons will be available for everyone who takes part in the event.  Before May 1st, the pre-registration entry fee is $20.00 and the race day registration fee is $25.00.  Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female race finishers in each age category for the 5K run and the 5K walk.
“Several of our employees were seeking a fun and healthy activity to participate in this spring and asked the hospital to organize such an activity.  A few of us met and decided to make the event a community activity with any money raised used to support a local charitable organization,” said Connie Weingarten, Director Colorado Plains Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Department.
Event organizers chose to give all proceeds raised from the race to the Fort Morgan Community Hospital Association, a 501c3 tax-exempt organization.
“When we announced our intentions, several other generous businesses and individuals indicated that they would like to help.  We are grateful for their partnership.  Their contributions will make it possible for us to host the race this year and cover its expenses,” added Sandy Engle, Executive Director for the Fort Morgan Community Hospital Association.
Hospital Hustle sponsors include:  Colorado Plains Medical Center, Tio Charlie’s, KFTM Radio, B106 Radio, Bellendir Mechanical Plumbing & Heating, Insurance Connection, the City of Fort Morgan, Victoria Lehrer, Kerrie Griese, Insightful Designs, Inc. (Ed Weingarten), Downtown Sound, and Doñez Auto Restoration.
“’The more, the merrier’ adage really does apply to this event.  Not only is this a healthy activity that will physically benefit its participants, but if we have a strong participation rate, the hospital’s patients and visitors benefit through updated equipment, increased services, and comfortable furnishings,” commented Engle.
Registration forms are available at Colorado Plains Medical Center, the Fort Morgan Chamber of Commerce, or by contacting Weingarten or Engle at (970) 867-3391.
