Susan Jones, Director of Colorado Plains Medical Center Home Care, announced today that the Medical Information Center, located at 1006 Lake Street, is planning to convert the health and medical library to an inclusive electronic system beginning June 13.
“Our goal remains the same as it always has been, which is to provide information to help the patron become better informed about his or her health. It has become increasingly difficult for us to maintain current printed materials as well as having limited physical space to house the larger books and journals. The majority of individuals utilizing our services are comfortable accessing information technically and tend to use our computerized searches and databases as well as the Internet to find information, so we have decided to transition the facility in this manner,” notes Jones.
Last week, representatives from Morgan Community College received a donation of materials housed at the Medical Information Center. Interested individuals can access the donated books at the MCC library, which is available for community use. There is no charge to receive a library card that allows a patron to check out material. However, a photo ID card is required. Information on the college library and its operational hours can be obtained on the college web page: morgancc.edu or by calling Jo Ann Kruglet, Associate Dean of Learning Resources, at 970-542-3185.
The Medical Information Center was established in 1994 by the Fort Morgan Community Hospital Association in partnership with Colorado Plains Medical Center. Operations of the health and medical library were made part of the Home Health department when CPMC Home Care (formally Alliance Healthcare) moved into the building in the fall of 2001. Patrons interested in electronic searches may continue to obtain information through the Home Health Department during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Further information regarding facility services can be obtained from Jones by calling 867-3013.
