Colorado Plains Medical Center recognized outgoing hospital governing board members and introduced their board replacements at a recent dinner and ceremony.
Appreciation was extended to Jo Ostwald and Jerry Jones for their service to the hospital and community during the past nine years. Michael Anaya, Chief Executive Officer of CPMC was assisted by representatives from LifePoint, CPMC’s management company, and Mike Chabot, President of the hospital’s governing board, in presenting Ostwald and Jones engraved desk clocks marking their years of dedicated service.
Ostwald noted that serving on the board was an eye-opening experience, but not one she would ever want to trade. “I am proud of this hospital and everything we have been able to accomplish during my tenure. Although my term has ended, I will continue to help whenever possible because the hospital is such a valuable asset to our community,” she remarked.
Jones, the past president of the governing board agreed. “I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve the community in this fashion for eight years. I was able to meet a large cross section of people in our community, and not everyone gets the chance to serve so many people in so many ways.”
Chabot extended his appreciation and commended both members for their steady focus and ability to accomplish and make things happen even in times of difficulty.
Jone Koford, Vice President for LifePoint’s American Division, which CPMC is a part of, noted that although LifePoint is the manager of CPMC, the hospital is community owned, and it is the work of the locals that make it the beautiful facility that it is today. “LifePoint wants to be a part of the community and is here to support the hospital in terms of helping you provide greater health services to those in need.”
Koford also congratulated the work of the employees and hospital board members on achieving the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leader award.
“This shows that the people of Morgan County are dedicated to providing quality service and are consistently seeking ways to improve the hospital’s operations,” she stated.
LifePoint’s corporate foundation will be making a community donation in honor of the achievement.
Anaya reiterated that the staff and board worked extremely hard to be honored by the health industry company. “We have a tremendous staff who works extremely hard every day, not necessarily to be recognized but because these folks truly care about people, quality, and the care they personally feel responsible for,” added Anaya.
Dr. Melissa Smits and Martha Bieber will be Ostwald’s and Jones’s replacements on the governing board.
Smits has a Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine and practices veterinary care at the Fort Morgan Veterinary Clinic, where she is part owner. She currently serves as President of the Hyperion Club. Smits will be serving a two-year term on the board.
Bieber is owner and the Chief Financial Officer of five John Deere dealerships employing almost 100 employees in Colorado and Kansas. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and, prior to moving to Fort Morgan, worked in both hospital and public health environments. She replaces Jones for a three-year term.
The governing board functions on behalf of LifePoint Corporation, bringing a community focus to hospital operations and tracking national trends to progressively help the hospital continue to operate at its fullest potential. Members of the governing board include: Mike Chabot, Tim Guggenmos (Hospital Association representative); Roger Segura (Hospital Foundation representative); Michael A. Anaya, Sr., CEO; Mike Patterson, CFO; Dr. Scott Faulkner, Chief of Staff; and Dr. Ken Keller and Dr. Jay Cook as medical staff representatives.
